Palle Panduga 2.0: Andhra Pradesh rural development faces regional challenges

As Andhra Pradesh gears up for Palle Panduga 2.0, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has emphasized that the program should transform the rural landscape across the entire state, bridging gaps in infrastructure and ensuring equitable development. The initiative, a continuation of the first Palle Panduga, aims to bring town-level amenities to villages, with a focus on roads, drains, cow shelters, and other rural infrastructure.

During a high-level review meeting held at the camp office on Tuesday, Pawan Kalyan provided guidance to senior officials from the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department, including Special Chief Secretary Shashibhooshan Kumar, Commissioner Krishna Teja, and other officials. The discussions focused on planning and prioritization of road construction, repairs, drainage systems, and other essential village infrastructure, ensuring that no region is left behind.

The 'Palle Panduga' initiative in Andhra Pradesh was launched on October 14, 2024. It was started as a week-long program, running until October 20. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan officially launched the initiative , but particularly in Rayalaseema, did not receive adequate attention. Villagers in districts like Kurnool, Anantapur, Kadapa, and Chittoor reported that roads remained partially repaired, making daily commuting difficult and dangerous, especially during the rainy season. Poorly maintained metal roads often caused vehicles to skid, creating safety hazards for residents.

One acute example is Vempalle in Kadapa district, where half of the road works were completed before elections, leaving the remaining stretches idle. Villagers, including Panchayat members and daily commuters, face significant challenges during rains as the incomplete roads become muddy and largely impassable. Such situations underscore the urgency for equitable development, as Coastal Andhra districts reportedly received more focus in the first phase, leading to perceptions of regional imbalance.

Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan at the meeting instructed to prioritize unfinished works in under-served areas, ensure temporary solutions for monsoon accessibility, and monitor project implementation to prevent delays. The leadership has stressed that Palle Panduga 2.0 is not merely a continuation but an ambitious program to uplift all villages, including those in Rayalaseema, to modern rural standards, ensuring sustainable development and reducing disparities across districts.

The state government aims for Palle Panduga 2.0 to serve as a model of inclusive rural development, addressing infrastructure gaps, improving accessibility, and enhancing the quality of life for villagers statewide.
