Pakistani Forces Kill 27 TTP Militants in Coordinated Northwest Operations
Pakistan’s security forces killed at least 27 militants linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during a series of coordinated counterterrorism operations in the country’s northwest over the weekend, officials said on Sunday. The operations were carried out in the restive districts of North Waziristan and Bannu in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa , a province that has witnessed a sharp rise in militant violence in recent years.
According to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) , security forces conducted intelligence-based operations in the Datta Khel area of North Waziristan after receiving information about the presence of militants. Troops reportedly engaged in fierce gun battles with the insurgents, leading to the killing of 11 militants belonging to what Pakistani authorities describe as “Fitna-al-Khawarij,” a term used for the TTP.
Officials said weapons, ammunition, and other materials were recovered from the militants, who were allegedly involved in several attacks and disruptive activities in the region. Security forces also launched follow-up clearance operations to ensure that no militant networks remained active in the area.
In a separate joint operation in Bannu district , personnel from the police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) killed another 16 militants , including two senior TTP commanders believed to be operating in the region. Authorities said several militant hideouts were destroyed during the raid.
However, the operation also resulted in casualties among security personnel. Two police officers lost their lives during the exchange of fire, officials confirmed.
Pakistan has seen a renewed surge in terrorist attacks since the collapse of a ceasefire agreement between the government and the TTP in November 2022 . Most of the violence has been concentrated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan , where militants have repeatedly targeted security forces, police personnel, and government installations.
The latest operations highlight Islamabad’s continued efforts to curb growing militancy and restore stability in insurgency-hit regions near the Afghan border.
