Pakistan Records Deadliest Month Of 2026 With 606 Killed In Terror Attacks And Counter Operations

Pakistan witnessed its deadliest month of 2026 in July, with 606 people killed and 232 others injured in terrorist attacks and counter terrorism operations across the country, according to a report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS).

The Islamabad based think tank said the sharp rise in casualties was driven by an increase in militant attacks and intensified operations by security forces. Security personnel deaths reached 112 in July, the highest monthly toll since January 2023 and the second highest recorded in more than a decade. In January 2023, 114 security personnel were killed, including around 102 in the Peshawar Police Lines suicide bombing.

According to the report, 401 terrorists were killed in July, the highest number recorded in a single month in more than 10 years. The violence also claimed the lives of 74 civilians and 19 peace committee members, with the deaths of peace committee members marking the highest monthly figure in a decade.

The month recorded eight suicide attacks, including five vehicle borne attacks, the highest number reported in a single month over the past decade. Kidnapping incidents also doubled, increasing from 33 in June to 66 in July.

The security situation deteriorated most sharply in Balochistan, where total deaths increased by 241 per cent, rising from 109 in June to 372 in July. Security force deaths in the province jumped from six to 62, while terrorist deaths increased from 75 to 238. PICSS earlier highlighted Balochistan as a major hotspot, with militants carrying out coordinated attacks targeting security forces and infrastructure.

The violence continued into the end of July, with a major militant attack on a police post in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa killing 11 police personnel and 15 attackers. The assault involved heavy weapons and was followed by a prolonged gun battle. Officials suspected the involvement of the Tehrik e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), although no group claimed responsibility.

PICSS data showed that Pakistan recorded 2,786 deaths linked to terrorism and counter terrorism operations in the first seven months of 2026. The toll included 1,857 terrorists, 463 civilians, 434 security personnel and 32 peace committee members.

The report said average monthly deaths among security forces increased from 56 in 2025 to 62 in 2026, while civilian deaths rose from 48 to 66 and terrorist deaths increased from 178 to 265, reflecting a worsening security situation across the country.
