The Pakistan Navy extended humanitarian assistance to the crew of an Indian offshore tug and supply vessel stranded in the Arabian Sea, in an operation that underscores continued maritime coordination between the two neighbours despite strained diplomatic ties.

According to a report by Dawn, the rescue effort was carried out with support from the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency after a request was received from India’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre Mumbai.

The vessel, MV Gautam , was en route from Oman to India when it developed a technical fault , leaving its crew stranded at sea. The crew comprised six Indian nationals and one Indonesian .

Responding swiftly, Pakistani authorities provided food supplies, medical aid, and technical support , helping stabilize the situation and ensure the crew’s safety. Efforts to further assist the vessel and resolve the issue are ongoing.

The operation highlights a rare instance of cooperation between India and Pakistan, demonstrating how humanitarian and maritime safety concerns can transcend political differences.

In a similar operation last month, the Pakistan Navy rescued 18 crew members , including foreign nationals, from a distressed vessel in the Arabian Sea. The vessel’s ownership was not officially disclosed, but the successful rescue reinforced the Navy’s role in ensuring regional maritime safety and responding swiftly to emergencies at sea.
