Pakistan-Based Hafiz Saeed Accused in Pahalgam Attack Chargesheet: NIA

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a supplementary chargesheet in the Pahalgam terror attack case , naming Pakistan-based Hafiz Saeed as an accused in the deadly conspiracy.

In the chargesheet filed before the NIA Special Court in Jammu , Saeed has been charged in his individual capacity as well as as the chief of the banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba and its proxy organisation The Resistance Front . The agency has invoked provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 , including charges of waging war against India and cross-border conspiracy .

According to the NIA, the supplementary filing expands on its earlier probe, presenting scientific and on-ground evidence indicating a coordinated Pakistan-based conspiracy behind the attack.

In its earlier chargesheet, the agency had named Pakistani handler Sajid Jatt , three terrorists killed during Operation Mahadev , and two arrested accused. The probe had also classified LeT/TRF as a legal entity responsible for planning and executing the attack.

The April 22 Pahalgam attack targeted tourists and killed 25 civilians and one local resident , marking one of the deadliest strikes in the region in recent years.

Originally registered at the Pahalgam police station, the case was later transferred to the NIA by the Union Home Ministry for a detailed investigation into the wider terror network.

The NIA said the investigation is ongoing to fully expose the cross-border terror infrastructure and those involved in the planning and execution of the attack.
