
Overloading Will Invite Strict Action, Warns Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy
The Transport Department has initiated a strong crackdown to curb rising road accidents, focusing on private buses that violate safety norms. Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy has instructed officials to act firmly against operators who risk passengers’ lives by running overloaded vehicles and ignoring regulations.
In a statement issued from his camp office in Tadepalli, the minister said statewide special enforcement drives have been intensified. Inspections carried out in the last 24 hours revealed serious irregularities. Of the 976 private buses checked , 193 were found violating rules or lacking proper documents , leading to cases being registered and substantial fines imposed .
The minister also raised concern over private buses illegally transporting commercial goods along with passengers , calling the practice unsafe and unacceptable.
Tight Vigil at 16 Key Points
To strengthen monitoring, authorities have established special inspection units at 16 strategic locations , including major toll plazas and border check-posts. Continuous surveillance is being maintained, with officials thoroughly examining each vehicle. The minister clarified that these enforcement drives will continue until noticeable improvements are seen.
Strict Action Against Violators
Emphasizing that passenger safety is non-negotiable , the minister warned that no leniency will be shown towards violations such as overspeeding or overloading. He urged transport operators to comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with the department.
He further cautioned that those prioritizing profits over safety will face severe legal consequences , including cancellation of licenses .
