More than 56,000 candidates have qualified in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Advanced 2026), the results of which were declared on Monday, marking another highly competitive year for admission into the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) . Out of 1,87,389 registered candidates , 1,79,694 appeared for both Paper 1 and Paper 2 conducted on May 17, and 56,880 candidates qualified , reaffirming the exam’s reputation as one of the toughest entrance tests in the country.

Shubham Kumar from the IIT Delhi zone secured All India Rank 1 (CRL) with an outstanding score of 330 out of 360 marks , emerging as the national topper. Closely following him was Kabeer Chhillar , who scored 329 marks to secure AIR 2 , while Jatin Chahar took the third position with 319 marks . All three top ranks came from the IIT Delhi zone , which showed strong dominance at the very top of the merit list this year.

Among female candidates, Arohi Deshpande , also from the IIT Delhi zone, emerged as the highest-ranked woman in JEE Advanced 2026 . She secured CRL 77 with 280 out of 360 marks , reflecting a strong performance among women aspirants. Of the total qualified candidates, 10,107 were female , while 46,773 were male candidates . One third-gender candidate appeared for the examination but did not qualify.

The examination also recorded participation from 3,052 Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates, of whom 2,864 appeared in both papers and 887 qualified , highlighting the scale and inclusivity of the examination process. Among IIT zones, IIT Madras zone recorded the highest number of qualified candidates with 14,294 , followed by IIT Bombay with 12,389 , and IIT Delhi with 10,697 .

The results were declared by IIT Roorkee , which conducted the examination, along with the release of the final answer key and scorecards on the official portal. Candidates have been advised to download their results using their roll number, date of birth, and registered mobile number, ahead of the upcoming JoSAA counselling process for IIT admissions.

Speaking after securing the top rank, Shubham Kumar said he was happy and relieved, adding that consistent preparation over the past two years helped him achieve the milestone. He credited discipline and focus for his success in one of India’s most competitive examinations.

With these results, JEE Advanced 2026 once again highlights the intense competition for IIT seats, where only a small fraction of aspirants succeed despite years of preparation and rigorous testing.
