Over 400 Villagers Fall ill After Wedding Feast In Gujarat’s Dahod District, FSSAI Orders Probe

In a large-scale suspected food poisoning outbreak , over 400 villagers fell ill after attending a wedding feast in Abhlod village of Gujarat’s Dahod district, officials and multiple reports confirmed on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Monday night during a wedding attended by an estimated 300 to 1,000 guests , according to varying official assessments. Around 8 pm, guests were served a meal that included mango juice and paneer dishes , after which many attendees began showing symptoms.

Within a few hours, several people developed vomiting, diarrhoea, nausea, dizziness, and severe abdominal pain , with most cases reported around 11 pm. Panic spread through the village as the number of affected individuals increased rapidly.

Initial estimates suggested around 230 people were ill, but later updates confirmed the figure had crossed 400 affected villagers , with some reports placing hospital admissions at nearly 200 in private facilities and others being treated locally.

At present, around 50–60 patients hospitalized remain under treatment, and officials have confirmed that most are in stable condition with no deaths reported so far. Medical teams were rushed from nearby centres, and emergency ambulances were deployed to transport patients.

Dahod Collector Yogesh Nirgude said affected persons were admitted to primary health centres, community hospitals, and private facilities , while Resident Medical Officer Dr Rajiv Damor confirmed that patients are recovering steadily.

Meanwhile, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and state health authorities have launched a detailed investigation. Food samples from the wedding venue have been collected for laboratory testing to determine the exact cause of contamination.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as the probe into the suspected mass food poisoning remains underway.
