Over 2,800 Indian Pilgrims to Visit Pakistan for Baisakhi Celebrations
The Pakistan High Commission on Tuesday announced that it has issued over 2,800 visas to Indian pilgrims to facilitate their participation in the Baisakhi celebrations in Pakistan.
Baisakhi, a major harvest festival celebrated by Sikhs and Hindus , marks the start of the new harvest season and holds significant religious importance, especially for Sikhs, as it commemorates the formation of the Khalsa .
The move comes under the bilateral protocol on visits to religious shrines, which allows Sikh and Hindu pilgrims from India to visit Pakistan every year, while Pakistani pilgrims undertake similar visits to India.
"On the occasion of Baisakhi celebrations, the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi has issued over 2,800 visas to pilgrims from India to participate in the annual festival scheduled from April 10-19 ," the commission said.
During their visit, the pilgrims will tour prominent Sikh religious sites including Gurdwara Panja Sahib, Gurdwara Nankana Sahib, and Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib .
Saad Ahmad Warraich , Charge d'Affaires at the Pakistan High Commission, extended his greetings to the pilgrims, wishing them a " fulfilling and spiritually rewarding " stay in Pakistan.
The issuance of these visas highlights ongoing people-to-people exchanges between India and Pakistan, showing how religious tourism continues to foster cross-border cultural ties even amid broader diplomatic tensions.
