Over 100 Villagers Fall Sick After Eating Sweets at Wedding Ceremony in Rajasthan
More than 100 people, including several children, allegedly fell ill due to suspected food poisoning after consuming sweets prepared for a wedding function in Rajasthan’s Kotputli-Behror district on Friday, officials said.
The incident was reported from Dhani Gaskan village in the Viratnagar area , where villagers began complaining of vomiting, nausea, stomach pain, and uneasiness after eating sweets distributed during the ceremony. According to officials, at least 105 people were affected .
The sweets, including rasmalai , were reportedly prepared on Thursday night for the wedding celebrations and served to villagers on Friday. Soon after consumption, many attendees, including children and elderly residents, developed symptoms commonly associated with food poisoning.
Health authorities rushed the affected individuals to the Community Health Centre in Atela , where doctors provided emergency treatment. Due to the seriousness of the condition of some patients, 16 children and 14 adults were later referred to the Shahpura Community Health Centre for advanced medical care.
Sub-Divisional Officer Kapil Kumar Upadhyay said timely medical intervention helped stabilise the patients, and most of them were discharged after their condition improved.
Officials from the administration and health department visited the village after receiving information about the mass illness. The food safety department collected samples of the sweets and sent them for laboratory testing to determine the exact cause of the suspected contamination.
Preliminary suspicion points to contamination or improper storage of dairy-based sweets , which are highly perishable in hot weather conditions. Authorities said further action would be taken based on the laboratory report.
