Our Government Will Finish Full Term: Siddaramaiah Sidesteps Tenure Question
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday asserted that the Congress government will complete its full five year term , even as questions continue over leadership changes within the state.
Speaking to reporters in Mysuru, Siddaramaiah firmly stated that the party’s tenure is secure, but avoided giving a direct answer on whether he himself would remain Chief Minister for the entire period.
“Our party will complete five years,” he said, when asked about his continuation in office.
On growing speculation about a possible leadership change and the reported ambitions of Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar , Siddaramaiah made it clear that such decisions rest entirely with the party leadership.
“The high command will decide . There is no point asking the same thing again,” he said, distancing himself from internal discussions on succession.
He also indicated his willingness to follow instructions from the party leadership in New Delhi, saying he would travel if required. “If I am called to Delhi, I will go,” he added, noting that he would also seek an appointment with senior leader Rahul Gandhi if needed.
The remarks come at a time when political circles in Karnataka are witnessing renewed speculation over a possible leadership transition, with discussions gaining momentum in the ruling party.
Siddaramaiah also pointed to recent bypoll results in Bagalkote and Davanagere South as a reflection of public support for the government. He said the outcomes show that voters have endorsed the Congress administration and its welfare programmes.
Taking a swipe at the opposition, the Chief Minister said their criticism lacks direction and strategy. He also clarified that local body elections will be conducted strictly as per established rules.
While his statement reaffirmed government stability , it also left key questions on leadership continuity open, keeping attention focused on the Congress high command’s decision .
