Osmania hospital to be completed in two years: CM issues directives

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed officials to complete the new building of Osmania Hospital within two years, ensuring it stands as a prestigious landmark for the state. The instructions came during a high-level review meeting on Wednesday, where the progress of construction, requirements, and facilities were comprehensively assessed.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the hospital should include advanced medical equipment, dedicated rooms, laboratories, and other necessary infrastructure. He instructed officials to prepare plans in advance for the utilization of these facilities. He also stressed that surrounding roads must be constructed to ensure local residents do not face inconvenience until the new building is completed.

CM Revanth Reddy further directed the immediate formation of a special coordination committee comprising officials from the Health Department, Police, GHMC, R&B, and the Electricity Department. This committee is to meet every ten days to resolve construction issues and ensure speedy completion.

Once the new building is completed, plans must be drawn for traffic management, security arrangements, and connecting roads. Additionally, the Chief Minister instructed that every hospital and medical college construction project across the state should have a dedicated officer monitoring the project 24x7 to ensure accountability.

Project cost and specifications The project has been allocated approximately ₹2,700 crore and will cover 26 acres with a 32 lakh sq. ft. building. It will have a capacity of 2,000 beds and feature modern medical equipment, robotic surgery, transplant theatres, and integrated facilities including nursing, dental, and physiotherapy colleges, transforming it into a comprehensive medical center.

Condition of the old building The original building, established in 1910, had deteriorated over time due to water leakage, flooding issues, and structural limitations, making renovation difficult. The current government has planned to replace it with a modern facility to provide better healthcare services. The new building is expected to be completed by June, positioning Osmania Hospital as a prestigious, state-of-the-art medical center.
