Oppn Notices to Remove CEC Rejected by RS Chairman, LS Speaker

A fresh political confrontation has emerged at the centre of India’s democratic framework after opposition parties attempted to initiate removal proceedings against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar , only to see their efforts halted at the preliminary stage. Notices submitted by opposition MPs in both Houses under Article 324(5) were rejected by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan , effectively blocking any further parliamentary action. Despite securing the backing of 193 MPs , well above the required threshold, the proposal failed to move forward as presiding officers ruled that the allegations did not meet the stringent constitutional standard of “proved misbehaviour or incapacity.”
