Nagpur witnessed a heartbreaking incident on Wednesday evening after a two year old boy died from drowning in an uncovered water tank in the city’s Minimatanagar area.

According to police, the victim, identified as Kush Rajendra Patel , was playing near his house when he accidentally slipped into a water tank constructed outside a neighbour’s residence. The tank, officials said, had been left open and without safety cover .

The tank reportedly belonged to Guddu alias Imamuddin Mohammad Azharuddin Shah (42) , who lives in the same locality. Following the incident, family members rushed the child for help, but he could not be saved.

Based on a complaint lodged by the boy’s uncle, police registered a case of culpable homicide due to negligence against Shah. He has been arrested , and further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to the tragic accident.

The incident has raised serious concerns among residents about the lack of safety measures around open water storage structures in residential areas, with locals demanding stricter monitoring to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
