Online Applications Invited by SSC for 326 Grade C Stenographer Posts
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced the recruitment of 326 Grade C Stenographer posts through the Limited Departmental Competitive Examination (LDCE) for 2025–26. Interested and eligible candidates are required to apply online via the official SSC website ssc.gov.in. The online application process will begin on 22 December 2025 and will close on 11 January 2026 at 11:00 PM .
The vacancies are distributed across several central government services : Central Secretariat Stenographers Services (267), Armed Forces Headquarters Stenographers Service (37), Railway Board Secretariat Stenographers Service (8), Indian Foreign Service Branch (B) Stenographers (13), Election Commission of India Stenographers Service (1), and Central Vigilance Commission, with the latter’s vacancies to be notified later.
Candidates eligible to apply are regularly appointed Stenographers Grade “D” in the respective participating services or cadres. Minimum approved service requirements vary depending on the cadre, ranging from three to six years. Specific eligibility relaxations are provided for select candidates of prior select lists, and all applicants must demonstrate computer literacy, as shorthand transcription will be conducted on computers.
No specific age limits have been prescribed; eligibility is determined based on the length of approved service as on 1 July 2025 . Salary will be as per the respective service or cadre rules.
The selection process for the SSC Grade C Stenographers (LDCE) 2025–26 will be conducted in three stages. The first stage is the Computer Based Examination (CBT ), carrying 200 marks and covering General Awareness as well as English language comprehension, with a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer. Candidates who qualify in the CBT will proceed to the Short Hand Skill Test (Stenography Test), also valued at 200 marks, which will be conducted in Hindi or English and will include dictation followed by computer transcription. The final stage involves the Evaluation of Record of Service (APARs), where a maximum of 100 marks will be awarded based on the candidate’s performance and service record.
Applications must be submitted in two stages: first through One Time Registration (OTR) , and second by completing the online application form. After online submission, the printed application along with required documents must be forwarded by the respective Head of Department or Organization to the Regional Director, SSC (Northern Region), New Delhi. Deadlines for receipt are 27 January 2026 for domestic candidates and 3 February 2026 for candidates abroad or from Andaman & Nicobar/Lakshadweep.
Candidates are advised to adhere to all instructions regarding photograph specifications, signature uploads, and service document submission. Examination centres will be located only in Delhi, and requests for centre change will not be entertained. The Commission reserves the right to amend schedules, cancel centres, or take corrective actions, and its decisions will be final.
