‘One law for the rich, another for the poor?’, KTR slams HYDRAA demolitions

BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) launched a strong attack on the Congress government, accusing it of misusing the “Hydraa” demolition drive to target poor families while protecting the powerful. Speaking at Telangana Bhavan during a PowerPoint presentation titled “One Law for the Rich, Another for the Poor?”, KTR alleged that the state has turned into a place of injustice and chaos under the current regime.

KTR claimed that thousands of poor families in Hyderabad have been rendered homeless because of the Hydraa operations. “Entire communities along the Musi River and other areas have lost their homes. Even a school in Chandrayangutta was demolished,” he said. “During KCR’s tenure, Telangana witnessed growth everywhere - modern Secretariat, Police Command Control Center, 42 flyovers, double-bedroom houses, and new collectorates in every district. But in the past two years, the Congress government has done nothing but demolish.”

Accusing the government of bias, KTR said, “When it comes to poor people, bulldozers arrive overnight. But for the rich and influential, not even a notice is issued. Is this justice? In one case, a pregnant woman’s house was demolished just a week after her housewarming ceremony. In another, a three-year-old was left crying in hunger after their home was torn down.”

KTR also questioned why no action was taken against ministers and leaders who have allegedly built houses on lakebeds and government lands. “Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy filled up a lake and built his house - did Hydra go there? Minister Vivek built near Himayat Sagar, CM Revanth Reddy’s brother built inside the FTL (Full Tank Level) of Durgam Cheruvu, and MLC Patnam Mahender Reddy constructed right in the middle of a lake. Why no notices for them? When a poor man builds, it’s illegal, but when the rich build, it’s justified?” he asked.

He further alleged that the government even supported a land issue involving MLA Arikepudi Gandhi in Gajularamaram, while continuing to demolish homes of the poor. “Officials claim boundary problems for the poor but stay silent when it comes to big builders. Why this double standard? In Congress, one law for their own people and another for the rest?” he questioned.

KTR also accused the government of ignoring large-scale encroachments by builders along the Musi River. “They’re silent on major violations but quick to send bulldozers to poor neighborhoods. Rahul Gandhi opposed bulldozer politics in Uttar Pradesh - why is he silent when the same thing happens in Telangana?” he asked.

Expressing confidence in his party’s return, KTR said, “Within 500 days, KCR will be back. We’ll ensure justice for every victim - rich or poor. There must be one law and one justice for all. True democracy means equal rights for everyone, but this government has mortgaged that principle.”
