One Killed, several injured as private bus overturns in Eluru District

A tragic road accident was reported in Eluru district on Monday when a private travel bus belonging to Bharathi Travels overturned near Jubilee Nagar village in Lingapalem mandal, resulting in the death of one passenger and injuries to over a dozen others.

According to preliminary police reports, the bus was travelling from Eluru to Hyderabad when it lost control and overturned on the roadside. The accident occurred in the early hours of Monday, causing panic among the passengers on board.

Local residents and passersby rushed to the spot and assisted in the rescue operations before emergency services arrived. The injured were shifted to the government hospital in Eluru for treatment. It was reported that the condition of some passengers remains serious, while others sustained minor injuries.

Police officials stated that the bus was carrying more than 20 passengers at the time of the accident. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of family members.

The cause of the accident is being investigated, with police examining whether overspeeding, driver fatigue, or a possible mechanical failure might have led to the mishap. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, and the bus has been seized for inspection.

This accident has once again highlighted the recurring issue of road safety and driver vigilance on intercity routes in Andhra Pradesh.
