Omega Seiki launches Swayamgati, India’s autonomous 3-wheeler vehicle

Electric mobility firm Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM) on Tuesday launched Swayamgati, India’s first production-ready autonomous electric three-wheeler, aimed at tackling urban congestion, last-mile transit challenges, and the growing demand for efficient and sustainable mobility solutions.

The vehicle is offered in two variants: the passenger model at Rs 4 lakh and the cargo version at Rs 4.14 lakh. Both variants integrate Omega Seiki Mobility’s electric vehicle platform with an AI-driven retrofit autonomous system, equipped with LiDAR sensors, cameras, ultrasonic detectors, and real-time obstacle detection. This allows the vehicles to operate autonomously in structured and semi-controlled environments such as airports, smart campuses, industrial parks, gated communities, and dense urban zones.

According to a 2025 McKinsey report, the global autonomous vehicle market is projected to exceed USD 620 billion by 2030, with shared and low-speed autonomous mobility solutions contributing significantly to this growth. In India, where urban congestion and last-mile transit issues are rising, autonomous electric vehicles provide a cost-effective, safe, and efficient alternative. Swayamgati is the first Indian product designed to leverage this trend at scale.

Uday Narang, Founder and Chairman of Omega Seiki Mobility, said, “The launch of Swayamgati represents a bold step into the future of Indian transportation. Autonomous vehicles are no longer a futuristic concept; they are a present-day necessity for sustainable and scalable mobility.” He added that the vehicle demonstrates India’s capability to develop AI, LiDAR, and autonomous navigation technologies domestically at accessible price points.

The vehicle has completed Phase 1 testing along a 3-kilometre autonomous route with seven stops, successfully detecting obstacles and ensuring safe passenger movement without human intervention. Phase 2 involves commercial rollout in controlled environments, targeting airports, campuses, industrial zones, and smart city projects. Omega Seiki Mobility aims to produce 1,500 autonomous vehicles over the next 24 months.

The three-wheeler is engineered for reliable operation in high-density, low-speed traffic and across diverse terrains, addressing the challenges of Indian roads. Its compact design and autonomous capabilities make it suitable for both metro cities and Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns. The internal engineering team, in collaboration with academic researchers, developed the autonomous system, integrating the electric powertrain, AI-based navigation, and multi-sensor safety controls.

Comparison with bajaj maxima XL cargo E-TEC 9.0:

The Swayamgati cargo variant is priced at Rs 4.14 lakh, slightly lower than the Bajaj Maxima XL Cargo E-TEC 9.0 at Rs 4.5 lakh. It features a 10.3 kWh battery with a range of up to 120 km, while the Bajaj model has an 8.9 kWh battery and a range of 149 km. The Swayamgati has a top speed of 12 km/h, compared to 40 km/h for the Bajaj cargo EV. Payload capacity and motor specifications for the Swayamgati have not been disclosed, while the Bajaj can carry 500–708 kg, powered by a 4.5 kW motor generating 36 Nm of torque. The Swayamgati is built for structured environments such as airports, campuses, and industrial zones, and features autonomous navigation with AI-based LiDAR, cameras, and sensors. The Bajaj model is intended for urban logistics and general cargo transport and does not include autonomous features.
