India’s rising badminton star Tanvi Sharma saw her impressive run at the Orleans Masters Super 300 come to a halt in the semifinals, going down in straight games to Japan’s experienced campaigner Nozomi Okuhara on Saturday.

The 17-year-old struggled to find her rhythm in the crucial clash, with unforced errors and inconsistent control costing her dearly. She lost 9-21, 16-21 in just 35 minutes against the former world champion.

Tanvi had entered the match with confidence, having beaten Okuhara last year, but this time the Japanese star’s experience stood out. Okuhara dictated the pace early, capitalising on mistakes to build a strong lead in the opening game.

The Indian youngster found it difficult to maintain control, with several shots going wide or long, allowing Okuhara to stay in command throughout the first game.

The second game offered a brief fightback as Tanvi showed resilience to level at 12-12. However, Okuhara quickly regained control, winning a crucial long rally and moving closer to victory.

Despite saving a match point, Tanvi couldn’t sustain the momentum as Okuhara sealed the match with a precise winner.

Though the campaign ended in the semifinals, Tanvi’s performance remains a strong sign of her potential , proving she can compete at the highest level.
