Officials Fear MIM MLAs, Ignore Us: Danam Nagender in Telangana Assembly

Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender on Friday accused officials of showing preferential treatment to MIM legislators in the allocation and draw process for Indiramma houses in Hyderabad, while allegedly ignoring concerns raised by other elected representatives.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Assembly, Nagender said 480 Indiramma houses had been sanctioned for his constituency. However, he alleged that houses meant for Khairatabad residents were allotted to beneficiaries from other constituencies, while some people from his constituency were given houses in other areas.

Nagender also objected to the manner in which the draw was conducted. He alleged that officials completed the process without waiting for him or other concerned public representatives to be present. According to him, the process was handled differently in constituencies represented by MIM MLAs.

Making a strong allegation against the officials, Nagender said they were afraid of MIM legislators and were therefore giving them greater consideration. He claimed that elected representatives were not being given adequate information or respect during the housing allocation process.

Nagender said he had brought the issue to the attention of the concerned minister but was allegedly told to “cool down”. He questioned why the matter had been allowed to continue without being resolved.

The MLA also complained to Speaker Gaddam Prasad about Telangana Housing Corporation MD VP Gautam, alleging that the official behaved discourteously and displayed a lack of discipline at the Speaker's office. Nagender said the Speaker was aware of how Gautam had spoken to him and expressed strong displeasure over the conduct.

Nagender said he would move a privilege motion over alleged irregularities in the Indiramma housing allocation process. He also expressed frustration that issues raised by legislators during Zero Hour were being noted down but, according to him, were not receiving proper responses.

Responding to the concerns, Speaker Gaddam Prasad said that if Nagender submitted a written complaint, the matter would be examined and appropriate action would be taken.
