The Odisha government is considering launching a dedicated television channel focused on Lord Jagannath to promote the rich cultural and spiritual heritage associated with the deity, officials said on Thursday.

The proposal was discussed at a meeting chaired by Prithiviraj Harichandan in the presence of senior officials, including Arabinda Padhee, the chief administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration.

Speaking after the meeting, Harichandan said there was a “positive discussion” on establishing a channel dedicated to Lord Jagannath, whom he described as the presiding deity of all Odias and a globally revered spiritual figure.

“The channel will help spread awareness about Jagannath culture, traditions, rituals, and philosophies that embody the principle of ‘Unity in Diversity’ ,” the minister said.

The iconic Jagannath Temple functions under the Odisha law department, which is overseeing the proposal.

Officials said the proposed channel is currently at a conceptual stage . Further discussions are expected to be held to prepare a detailed roadmap covering the channel’s operations, structure, and implementation plan.

“A complete profile of the project will be prepared soon. More clarity on the operational framework and launch timeline is expected in the coming days,” an official said.
