Odisha deported 75 Bangladeshi infiltrators since June 2024, says CM Majhi

The Odisha government has deported 75 Bangladeshi infiltrators out of the 77 identified across the state between June 2024 and February 2026, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the Assembly on Monday.

Replying to a question from BJD legislator Ganeswar Behera , the chief minister said the action was taken in line with directions issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to detect and deport illegal immigrants.

Majhi said the MHA, through a directive issued on May 2, 2025 , asked states to intensify efforts to identify foreign nationals residing illegally in India. Acting on the order, the Odisha government formed special task forces in all districts to identify, detain and deport Bangladeshi infiltrators.

The chief minister added that superintendents of police were directed to expedite verification drives in their respective jurisdictions to trace illegal immigrants. As part of the exercise, authorities verified the identity documents of 2,261 suspected individuals across the state.

Of them, 2,184 people were found to be Indian citizens and released after verification, while 77 individuals were confirmed as Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in Odisha.

Among those identified, 26 were from Bhubaneswar , 21 from Jagatsinghpur , and 15 from Cuttack , while others were traced in Berhampur, Kandhamal, Kendrapara and Koraput districts , the chief minister said.

Majhi further said two Bangladeshi nationals were booked for allegedly obtaining Indian passports using forged documents , and criminal cases have been registered against them.

The chief minister told the House that 75 of the 77 identified infiltrators have already been deported , while authorities continue to monitor illegal immigration and conduct verification drives across districts to detect foreign nationals residing unlawfully in the state.
