
Odia music composer and singer Abhijit Majumdar passes away at 54
Renowned Odia music composer and singer Abhijit Majumdar died on Sunday while undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar , hospital officials confirmed. He was 54.
Majumdar had been admitted to the hospital on September 4, 2025 , with hypertension, hypothyroidism and chronic liver disease . After spending several months in the Intensive Care Unit, he was moved to the medicine ward on November 10 for continued care. On January 23 , he developed a new infection-related fever, which was treated, but he later suffered refractory septic shock . He had a cardiac arrest at 7:43 am on Sunday and, despite resuscitation efforts under ACLS protocol, was declared dead at 9:02 am .
Abhijit Majumdar was one of the most influential figures in the Odia music industry. Over the years, he became a household name, known for his melodious compositions and powerful vocals. His work spanned numerous blockbuster Odia films, and many of his songs became instant hits, deeply loved by audiences across Odisha. Majumdar’s music was known for blending modern sounds with traditional Odia rhythms, creating a unique style that resonated with both younger and older listeners. He was not only a composer but also a singer who gave voice to many memorable tracks, contributing significantly to the growth of contemporary Odia cinema.
He composed music for several major Odia films, many of which were box office successes, and produced numerous hit songs that became popular across Odisha and among Odia communities worldwide. Majumdar was widely respected in the Odia film fraternity and had a strong fan base, with many artists praising his contribution to Odia music.
The news of his demise was met with deep sorrow across the state. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi , Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan , and Opposition Leader Naveen Patnaik were among the leaders who expressed grief and offered condolences to the bereaved family. According to his family, Majumdar’s mortal remains will be taken to his home in Cuttack , where his last rites will be performed.
His sudden departure leaves a significant void in the Odia music world, but his melodies will continue to live on in the hearts of millions.
