The National Testing Agency has released a detailed advisory for students appearing in the Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET-UG) 2026, outlining the dress code, permissible items and examination-day guidelines ahead of the nationwide entrance test scheduled from May 11 to May 31.

The CUET-UG examination is conducted annually for admission to undergraduate courses in central universities and several participating state, deemed and private universities across India. Introduced to create a common platform for university admissions, the examination is held in computer-based test (CBT) mode and assesses students in language, domain-specific subjects and general aptitude.

Students who have completed or are appearing for their Class 12 examinations are eligible to apply for CUET-UG, subject to the admission criteria prescribed by individual universities. Lakhs of candidates from across the country appear for the examination every year seeking admission to courses in arts, science, commerce and other professional streams.

In its latest advisory, the NTA stated that candidates will be allowed to carry transparent water bottles inside examination centres. Students wearing articles or objects of faith will also be permitted entry, but they must report well in advance to facilitate security frisking procedures.

The agency clarified that religious threads such as “kalava” are allowed during the examination. Candidates have been advised to wear light-coloured or white clothing, while woollen garments may be worn if necessary, subject to additional checks.

Regarding footwear, the NTA said normal shoes, slippers and low heels are preferred. Candidates have also been advised to reach their examination centres early to avoid delays during security screening.

The CUET-UG 2026 examination will be conducted at centres across India as well as in 15 international cities. Officials said the advisory aims to ensure smooth conduct of the examination and maintain uniform security procedures at all centres.
