Novak Djokovic will return to the Swiss Indoors in Basel after a 17-year absence, with the Serbian tennis great targeting his 103rd career title after accepting a wild-card entry for the ATP 500 tournament.

The 39-year-old, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, last competed at the Basel event in 2009. The ATP Tour announced his participation on Friday, October 16, with the message “17 years on ...”, marking his long-awaited return to the Swiss tournament.

Play at the Swiss Indoors begins on October 26, offering Djokovic another opportunity to add to his remarkable collection of titles and move closer to the top of men's tennis's all-time winners' list.

Djokovic won the China Open earlier this month, and another title would take his career tally to 103, bringing him level with Swiss legend Roger Federer, who won 103 titles during the Open era. American great Jimmy Connors remains the record-holder with 109 titles.

The Basel appearance also comes after the postponement of the Six Kings Slam, an exhibition tournament scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia, until late December. The change follows a deadly missile strike on Riyadh's international airport last Saturday that, according to the report, killed 12 people and injured more than 300. The attack was described as the deadliest in a Gulf Arab country since the Iran war began.

With the Swiss Indoors now on his schedule, Djokovic will have another chance to strengthen his place in tennis history. His return to Basel, nearly two decades after his last appearance, adds an intriguing storyline to a tournament where the Serbian star will be chasing another milestone in an already extraordinary career.
