Northern Army commander reviews Kashmir security, stresses inter-agency coordination

Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Army Northern Command, on Tuesday conducted a comprehensive review of the security situation in Kashmir, with a focus on counter-terror operations, intelligence coordination, and overall operational preparedness.

During his visit to the Valley, Lt Gen Sharma inspected units and formations deployed in the hinterland as part of the counter-terrorism grid. Field commanders briefed him on operational dynamics, intelligence fusion, and coordination among multiple security agencies , highlighting ongoing efforts to maintain stability.

At the Joint Control Centre, Budgam, the Army commander reviewed multi-agency coordination mechanisms , including real-time intelligence sharing and joint operational planning aimed at preserving peace in the Valley. He commended troops for their high morale, professionalism, and readiness in handling evolving security challenges.

Significantly, the review coincided with parallel assessments in the Jammu region , where senior Army officers evaluated operational preparedness along the Line of Control (LoC), particularly in forward areas such as the Akhnoor sector. Troops were briefed on measures to strengthen defences and enhance effectiveness in sensitive border zones.

The Army said forces along the LoC remain alert and dominant , with continued focus on preventing infiltration. The review in Jammu follows recent incidents, including the foiling of an infiltration attempt in the Nowshera sector , underlining persistent cross-border threats.

Officials indicated that these visits are part of a broader pattern of high-level security reviews across Jammu and Kashmir in recent weeks, covering both hinterland counter-terror grids and frontline defences. The emphasis remains on proactive vigilance, seamless coordination, and intelligence-driven operations .
