The Andhra Pradesh government has issued a weather alert for North Andhra as a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall to several districts over the next two days.

Home and Disaster Management Minister V. Anitha reviewed the situation and directed officials to take all necessary precautionary measures to prevent loss of life and property. She urged people in vulnerable areas to remain alert for the next three days and strictly follow advisories issued by the authorities.

The government has also made emergency response facilities available in the affected districts. People can contact the control rooms through the toll-free numbers 112, 1070 and 1800 425 0101 for assistance.

Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority Managing Director Prakhar Jain said the low-pressure area was currently centred near south Odisha and the adjoining North Coastal Andhra region. Its influence is expected to produce strong winds of around 50 to 60 kmph along the North Coastal Andhra coast, while rough sea conditions are likely to prevail.

Authorities have issued a strict warning to fishermen against venturing into the sea during the adverse weather conditions.

Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected in parts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam and Alluri Sitarama Raju districts. Moderate showers are also likely to continue in the Polavaram region.

Light to moderate rainfall may occur in parts of Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Konaseema, West Godavari, Krishna and Eluru districts, while isolated light showers are possible elsewhere in the state.

Officials have also warned of thunderstorms and lightning in parts of Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Konaseema, East Godavari and West Godavari districts. Along the coast, strong winds of up to 50–70 kmph are possible, prompting authorities to maintain heightened preparedness.
