Noida Arrests: ATS Busts Alleged ISI-Linked Plot, Family Denies Charges
The family of Tushar Chauhan alias Hizbullah Ali Khan , arrested for allegedly working with Pakistani handlers linked to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has denied any terror connections, claiming he is “mentally unstable.” Chauhan and Sameer Khan , a Delhi resident, were arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) from Noida on Thursday for allegedly planning a major disruptive act .
Chauhan’s father, Shailendra Chauhan , said his son spent most of his time on his phone and insisted that only a mobile phone was recovered from him. The family also claimed ignorance about any religious conversion or adoption of the name “Hizbullah,” and suggested he may have been framed , possibly linked to an earlier social media controversy. However, they stated that strict action should be taken if he is found guilty.
According to ADGP (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash , the arrests followed intelligence inputs about sleeper cells being developed via social media platforms like Instagram. Investigations revealed that Pakistani gangsters Shahzad Bhatti and Abid Jatt , along with radical YouTubers , were allegedly attempting to radicalise Indian youth , offering financial incentives to disrupt communal harmony.
Police said the accused were encouraged to conduct reconnaissance of sensitive locations , carry out targeted attacks , and even assassinate individuals. A pistol, five cartridges, and a knife were reportedly recovered.
During interrogation, Chauhan allegedly admitted contacting handlers via Instagram and later through calls. He was reportedly promised ₹50,000 in advance and ₹2.5 lakh after completing tasks , along with help to travel abroad. He also allegedly roped in Sameer Khan, and both were engaged in preparatory activities .
The ATS is continuing its probe to uncover the extent of the network and possible links to cross-border operatives .
