No Street Celebrations In Bengaluru As RCB Cancels Victory Parade
The franchise of Royal Challengers Bengaluru has decided against holding a victory parade in Bengaluru following their second consecutive IPL title win, prioritising safety and administrative constraints over public celebrations.
RCB defeated Gujarat Titans by five wickets in Ahmedabad on Sunday to clinch the championship. However, despite the historic achievement, the team will not take part in any open-top bus parade or street celebrations in the city, with fans instead expected to mark the occasion through indoor gatherings and private celebrations .
The decision comes largely in the backdrop of serious crowd safety concerns , especially after the tragic incident last year near the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where 11 fans lost their lives in a stampede during hurried victory celebrations. The memory of that incident has strongly influenced the franchise’s cautious approach this time.
Another major factor is the swearing-in ceremony of Karnataka’s newly appointed Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar , scheduled at Lok Bhavan. The event is expected to draw large crowds and high-profile dignitaries, with the Governor’s residence located close to the stadium area. Authorities have indicated that significant police deployment will be required for the political event, leaving limited manpower for any parallel public celebration.
Bengaluru City Police had already issued a clear advisory urging citizens to avoid public celebrations, road gatherings, bursting crackers, or causing disturbances . Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh reiterated that no public celebrations would be permitted and fans should confine festivities to indoor spaces only.
An RCB source confirmed that it is “highly unlikely” any city-wide celebration will be organised , adding that the franchise will fully comply with government and police guidelines.
Logistical challenges have further complicated plans, as several players are set to leave for international duty. Devdutt Padikkal is expected to join the Indian Test squad ahead of the one-off match against Afghanistan, while overseas players such as Josh Hazlewood, Tim David, Jacob Duffy, and Romario Shepherd have national team commitments.
With both security concerns and scheduling conflicts , the franchise has effectively ruled out any public celebration in Bengaluru, bringing an end to hopes of a city-wide victory parade despite the team’s championship success.
