No Power Cuts This Summer: Vijayanand Orders Robust Action Plan
As soaring temperatures grip the state, Energy Department Special Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand has directed officials to roll out a robust action plan to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the peak summer months.
Reviewing the power situation with senior officials on Wednesday, he noted that daily electricity consumption has already reached around 275 million units and is expected to rise further in the coming weeks. He urged authorities to stay alert and fully prepared to handle the surge in demand.
Highlighting the critical nature of the upcoming May, June, and July period, Vijayanand warned that temperatures could climb unusually high due to the impact of El Niño . He reiterated that the government’s priority is to provide 24/7 reliable and safe electricity to all sectors, including domestic and industrial consumers. To achieve this, he called for a comprehensive contingency plan with backup arrangements to tackle any emergencies without disrupting supply.
He also stressed the need for stronger coordination between the state transmission utility and power distribution companies to prevent outages. Maintaining grid stability during peak load hours and addressing low-voltage issues through technical measures were identified as key focus areas. Officials were instructed to ensure strict monitoring of power lines and substations, leaving no room for negligence.
On the infrastructure front, Vijayanand reviewed the progress of projects being jointly executed by AP Genco and the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) . He directed officials to expedite approvals and tender processes to avoid delays. Emphasis was also laid on identifying new energy sources in collaboration with the Water Resources Department and NREDCAP , with a focus on expanding pumped storage projects and solar power generation .
He further instructed officials to resolve pending forest clearance issues related to the Gadikota and Rajupalem pumped storage projects and speed up their execution. Reaffirming the state’s long-term vision, Vijayanand said efforts are underway not only to meet current energy needs but also to prepare for future demand growth.
