With global energy uncertainties fuelling local anxieties, Andhra Pradesh is witnessing a surge in LPG demand, even as officials maintain that the supply chain remains stable with adequate reserves in place.

At a high-level review held at the Real Time Governance System (RTGS), Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu assessed the state’s preparedness amid rising public concern. Officials confirmed that the state currently holds nearly 14,000 metric tonnes of LPG , sufficient to meet demand for the next 15 days , with additional stocks expected to arrive soon to further strengthen supply.

However, authorities clarified that the current strain is not due to any shortage, but a spike in panic-driven advance bookings , triggered by misinformation and global developments. Oil marketing companies have ramped up supply, dispatching close to three lakh cylinders daily , yet uneven demand patterns have led to temporary, localised delivery delays.

The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure uninterrupted supply to essential services , including hospitals, hostels, and temples, stressing that these sectors must not face disruptions under any circumstances. Senior representatives from GAIL, ONGC, and Indian Oil Corporation participated in the review, highlighting coordinated efforts across agencies.

To enhance transparency and curb malpractice, Naidu mandated the strict implementation of e-KYC and OTP-based verification for LPG deliveries to prevent illegal diversion of domestic cylinders. Authorities have also intensified monitoring across the distribution network.

At the same time, the commercial sector is facing visible stress. In cities like Vijayawada, several hotels and eateries report receiving only 30–40% of their LPG requirements , forcing some to scale down operations or temporarily shut, raising concerns over economic impact.

The situation is unfolding against the backdrop of geopolitical tensions in West Asia , which have heightened global energy concerns. Despite this, state officials maintain that buffer stocks and monitoring systems are in place to ensure continuity and prevent disruptions.

Looking ahead, the Chief Minister emphasised reducing dependence on LPG by promoting alternative energy solutions . He called for increasing the availability of induction stoves , scaling up CNG and PNG usage , and strengthening the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network . He also underscored the importance of utilising natural gas from the Krishna-Godavari Basin to expand pipeline-based gas supply to households .

Naidu further urged gas companies to ramp up production capacity and streamline supply chains , ensuring long-term energy resilience for the state.

For now, the government’s message remains clear: there is no shortage of LPG, but responsible consumer behaviour is essential . As Andhra Pradesh navigates both global uncertainties and local demand fluctuations, the focus is on maintaining stability while building a more resilient and diversified energy ecosystem.
