No Internet, Just Calls! Airtel Introduces Three New Prepaid Plans Starting at ₹185

Bharti Airtel has introduced three prepaid plans focused exclusively on voice calls and SMS, offering customers an alternative to regular recharge packs that bundle mobile data with calling benefits. Priced at ₹185, ₹203 and ₹206, the plans cater to users who primarily use their phones for calls and text messages rather than internet access.

The new offerings include unlimited local, STD and roaming calls, along with 300 SMS. The plans provide validity ranging from 28 days to a calendar month, giving subscribers options based on their usage requirements.

Unlike conventional prepaid packages, these plans do not include mobile data. They are aimed at feature phone users, senior citizens, people with limited internet needs and customers maintaining a secondary SIM mainly for calling purposes.

The launch comes amid growing demand for more flexible mobile tariffs, particularly from consumers who do not want to pay for data services they rarely use. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has been pushing telecom operators to offer more suitable voice-only recharge options, bringing renewed attention to plans designed around basic communication needs.

However, affordability could determine how well the new packs perform. Although customers can avoid paying for an unwanted data bundle, the starting price of ₹185 may still be considered expensive by budget-conscious subscribers. Some users have called for more affordable calling plans, with monthly options below ₹100 emerging as a key demand.

For Airtel, the move offers an opportunity to serve customers whose requirements differ from those of smartphone users who depend heavily on mobile internet. The plans could also benefit people who use a second SIM primarily to remain reachable without purchasing a full data package.

The introduction of voice-focused recharges highlights a wider challenge for India's telecom industry: balancing revenue needs with consumers' demand for affordable, flexible connectivity. The response to Airtel's latest offerings will depend on whether subscribers consider the convenience of data-free plans worth their price.
