No hike in Hyderabad metro fares, clarifies HMRL
The Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has clarified that there is no increase in metro fares at present, dismissing recent media reports suggesting otherwise. The metro authorities confirmed that passengers will continue to travel at the existing fares.
In an official statement released on Friday, HMRL explained that any revision in metro fares can only be made based on the recommendations of a Fare Fixation Committee (FFC), as per the Metro Railways (Operations and Management) Act, 2002. The committee is constituted by the Central Government and includes a retired High Court judge as the chairperson, along with one representative each from the central and state governments.
For the Hyderabad Metro project, the government had set up the Fare Fixation Committee on September 5, 2022. The committee was chaired by Justice (Retd.) Gudiseva Shyam Prasad, with Dr. Surendra Kumar Bagde (Additional Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India) and Aravind Kumar (Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration & Urban Development, Government of Telangana) as members.
Based on the committee’s recommendations, a revision in metro fares had come into effect on May 24, 2025. Since then, HMRL stated, no further changes have been made to the fare structure.
The metro authorities urged commuters and the public not to believe unverified reports about any immediate fare hike and to rely only on official announcements from HMRL for accurate information.
