No difference between accreditation and media cards, says Minister Ponguleti

Telangana’s government has clarified that there is no difference between accreditation cards and media cards for journalists, assuring that all benefits and facilities will be provided equally.

Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy met with media representatives to discuss the welfare and convenience of journalists in the state. He emphasized that the government’s goal is to provide equal rights and benefits to all journalists and that there is no intention to create divisions among them.

The minister held discussions on Tuesday at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar State Secretariat with representatives from the Telangana Working Journalists Federation and the Desk Journalists Federation. He reassured desk journalists that there is no cause for concern and confirmed that all facilities provided to accreditation cardholders will equally apply to media cardholders.

Minister Ponguleti also promised that the government will make any necessary amendments to G.O. 252 in writing to address concerns and avoid confusion. He stressed that there is no bias, and all welfare schemes will be available only to genuine, eligible journalists. “Do not worry about rumors or misinformation - these benefits are for all qualified journalists. I am with you,” he said.

Telangana is one of the states that issues the highest number of accreditation cards. After the assembly session, the government plans to engage with all journalist associations, including desk journalists, to consider their suggestions and make further improvements for journalist welfare. The minister said these measures will not only ensure equality among journalists but also demonstrate the government’s commitment to supporting genuine professionals in the field.
