‘No Compensation Can Erase Pain’: Omar Abdullah After Kulgam Attack Claims Two Lives

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Kulgam district, saying that no financial assistance can compensate for the suffering faced by the families of those killed in the incident.

The attack took place on Friday evening at a brick kiln in the Kelam area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, where two migrant workers from Chhattisgarh, identified as Deepak Ratray and Bopinder, were killed by terrorists. Both victims were in their 20s and had travelled to Jammu and Kashmir in search of employment.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru after attending an event, Abdullah expressed deep sorrow over the incident and said the victims had come to the region to earn an honest livelihood but were targeted in a tragic act of violence.

“People from outside the state had come here to earn an honest livelihood. Those innocent people were targeted in such a manner. The attack cannot be condemned enough,” Abdullah said.

The Chief Minister said that while the administration would extend financial support to the affected families, no amount of money could reduce their grief or reverse the loss of their loved ones.

As part of the assistance measures, Abdullah announced an ex-gratia relief of ₹10 lakh each for the families of the two deceased migrant workers. This support will be provided in addition to the ₹6 lakh immediate assistance announced by the Kulgam district administration.

Abdullah reiterated that the government stands with the families during this difficult period and assured that efforts would continue to provide necessary support following the tragic attack.

The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of migrant workers and civilians in Jammu and Kashmir, with authorities continuing efforts to address security challenges in the region.
