Nizamabad Launches ‘Mission Aparajita’ to Support Domestic Violence Survivors
In a significant step towards ensuring that women affected by domestic violence break their silence and access dignified justice, the Nizamabad district administration has launched a new initiative titled ‘Mission Aparajita’ . The programme aims to support women and build a fear-free society.
The initiative was conceptualised by District Collector Ila Tripathi (IAS) and other senior officials after observing the hardships faced by several women during Praja Vani grievance programmes. Authorities noted that many domestic violence survivors hesitate to approach the police due to fear and lack of legal awareness, leading to mental isolation. To address these gaps, the district administration and judiciary have jointly taken up this responsibility. Principal District Judge Bhagyalakshmi and Armur Court Judge Sridevi have extended full support and are guiding efforts to ensure easier access to justice for affected women.
A major focus of the initiative is awareness. Women are being informed that domestic violence is not limited to physical assault alone, but also includes mental, emotional, and economic abuse . For those unable to approach police stations, the One Stop Centre – Sakhi has been strengthened as a first point of contact, offering a safe and supportive environment.
Special measures have been introduced to ensure that victims do not face financial burden. Legal assistance is being provided without the need for private lawyers. In the initial stage, counselling is conducted under the District Protection Officer to explore dialogue and reconciliation. If reconciliation is not possible, legal proceedings are fast-tracked without delay.
Strict action is being taken against accused persons attempting to evade the judicial process. Measures include issuing non-bailable warrants (NBWs) and passing ex parte orders if the accused fail to appear for hearings. In cases where perpetrators are government employees, administrative actions such as suspension of salaries are also being implemented. Officials are also discussing legal measures to prevent accused individuals from fleeing abroad.
The proposal to establish a dedicated special court for domestic violence cases in Nizamabad reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the issue effectively. Awareness campaigns, pamphlets, and public outreach programmes are being conducted across villages to spread the message: “Justice is within your reach, break the silence and seek support.”
