Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant to tour all 38 districts of Bihar after JD(U) entry
A day after formally joining the Janata Dal (United), Nishant Kumar , son of Nitish Kumar, on Monday said he is planning to undertake a statewide tour of all 38 districts of Bihar in the coming days, a move seen as his first major step into active politics.
Speaking to reporters after paying tribute to his late mother Manju Sinha by garlanding her statue at a park named after her in Patna, Nishant said he would soon finalise the schedule for the proposed tour.
“I am planning to tour across the 38 districts of Bihar and will soon take a decision on this front,” he said.
Nishant was formally inducted into the JD(U) on Sunday, shortly after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar filed his nomination papers for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. His entry into the party has sparked fresh political speculation in the state, where he has largely stayed away from public life until now.
For years, Nishant Kumar maintained a low profile and repeatedly declined to enter politics despite growing curiosity about whether he would eventually succeed his father. However, his formal induction into the JD(U) and the announcement of a statewide tour are widely being interpreted as signals that he may now play a more active role in the party’s organisational and political activities ahead of future elections in Bihar.
Responding to a question about Tejashwi Yadav, Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, wishing him after his induction into the party, Nishant said, “That is a good thing. I accept that.”
Political observers believe the planned tour could help Nishant familiarise himself with grassroots issues across the state while also strengthening the party’s outreach at the district level.
