Nitish Kumar’s Son Nishant Among 32 Ministers Sworn Into Bihar NDA Government

In a politically significant development that signals both continuity and transition in Bihar politics, Nishant Kumar , son of JD(U) patriarch Nitish Kumar , was inducted into the Bihar cabinet on Thursday along with 31 other ministers in a large scale expansion of the Samrat Choudhary-led NDA government .

The oath-taking ceremony, held at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna , turned into a major political show of strength for the ruling alliance. Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain administered the oath to the new ministers in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi , Union Home Minister Amit Shah , JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar , and several senior NDA leaders.

The induction of Nishant Kumar is being viewed as one of the most closely watched moments in Bihar politics in recent years. Though he has largely remained away from active politics for a long time, his entry into the cabinet has immediately sparked discussions about the future leadership of JD(U) and the political legacy of Nitish Kumar, one of Bihar’s most influential leaders.

The cabinet expansion also saw the return of several experienced faces, including former deputy chief minister Vijay Kumar Sinha , along with senior leaders Shrawon Kumar and Ashok Choudhary . Ministers from different NDA allies were accommodated as the alliance attempted to maintain political and social balance ahead of the upcoming electoral battles.

The current government marks a historic shift in Bihar politics. Last month, Nitish Kumar stepped down as chief minister after being elected to the Rajya Sabha, paving the way for Samrat Choudhary to become Bihar’s first BJP chief minister. Apart from BJP and JD(U), the Bihar NDA includes LJP (Ram Vilas) led by Union minister Chirag Paswan , HAM headed by former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi , and RLM led by Rajya Sabha MP Upendra Kushwaha . Representation from alliance partners in the new cabinet is expected to play a crucial role in maintaining coalition unity.
