Nitin Nabin Attacks Mamata Over Women’s Safety, Launches Parivartan Yatra in Bengal
Nitin Nabin attended the launch of the Parivartan Yatra 2026 in Cooch Behar and launched a sharp attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of failing to ensure women’s safety and allegedly encouraging illegal infiltration.
Speaking at the rally, the BJP leader said that before coming to power, Mamata Banerjee had raised the slogan “Maa, Mati and Manush” , but alleged that her government had failed to protect mothers and daughters in the state. He criticised reported remarks attributed to her advising women not to go out in the evening, questioning how such statements align with the cultural identity of Bengal. He asserted that in a state known for its rich culture and civilisation, women should not be told to remain confined to their homes for safety.
Nabin further alleged that the state government had turned a blind eye to crimes against women and failed to act decisively on issues related to law and order. He stated that the BJP would not remain silent over what he described as the “insult” to women in Bengal and claimed that party workers and supporters would stand against such governance failures.
A major focus of his speech was on illegal infiltration. Through the Parivartan Yatra , he said the party wants to send a strong message to alleged illegal immigrants and emphasised that the time had come to address the issue decisively. He accused the ruling dispensation of supporting such elements while neglecting border security concerns.
He also targeted the government over land allocation policies, claiming that land is allegedly not available for strengthening border protection but is reportedly allocated easily for “favoured” political interests. He charged that the administration applies different standards depending on political convenience and questioned its commitment to transparency in land management.
Nabin added that the state leadership approaches the Supreme Court at midnight to defend policies linked to contentious issues, but remains inactive when it comes to safeguarding women’s dignity and security. He argued that legal action and political attention should prioritise public safety rather than partisan considerations.
The campaign also saw participation from other senior leaders. In West Medinipur, Suvendu Adhikari stated that the BJP has launched four Parivartan Yatras with the objective of improving the current situation in Bengal. He described himself as a guarantor of the assurances given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and emphasised development-oriented governance.
In Krishnanagar, Rahul Sinha expressed confidence that political change is inevitable in the state and claimed that the yatra would strengthen grassroots outreach and organisational efforts ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
The campaign is a statewide initiative covering over 5,000 kilometres , featuring 63 major rallies and 282 smaller gatherings , culminating in a grand rally at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground addressed by Prime Minister Modi.
On March 2, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to address gatherings in South 24 Parganas, while Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will speak in Howrah-Hooghly. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will address events in Burdwan, and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will participate in North 24 Parganas, along with other senior party leaders.
The BJP leadership stated that the yatra aims to highlight issues such as corruption, women’s safety, illegal infiltration, border security, governance failures, employment generation, and infrastructure development , while expanding booth-level outreach and strengthening citizen engagement across the state.
