Nine Arrested in Rajasthan for Abducting, Assaulting Youth Over Marriage Dispute
In a disturbing incident from Rajasthan’s Ajmer district, police have arrested nine persons , including a woman , for allegedly abducting and brutally assaulting a 21-year-old man over a long-standing family dispute linked to a marriage, officials said on Sunday.
The incident took place on Saturday in Gagwana village under Gegal police station limits . The victim, identified as Jeetu (21), a resident of Beer village in Ajmer district , was allegedly abducted and subjected to torture by members of the woman’s former in-laws’ family.
According to police, Jeetu had married a woman about five months ago after her earlier marriage had ended in divorce. The woman had been living at her parental home after the separation. However, her former in-laws allegedly opposed the new marriage, claiming that the matter had not been settled as per community norms, leading to continued tensions between the families.
On Saturday, Jeetu was allegedly intercepted, abducted, and taken captive, where he was assaulted. Police said he was also subjected to humiliation during the assault. A video of the incident later surfaced on social media, triggering widespread outrage in the area.
Following the circulation of the video, Jeetu’s family staged a protest at the Gegal police station, alleging delay in police response. Senior police officials, including the Rural Circle Officer, reached the spot and assured swift action.
A case was subsequently registered, and multiple police teams were formed to trace the accused. Superintendent of Police Harshvardhan Agarwala confirmed that nine accused have been arrested so far and vehicles used in the crime have been seized. He added that efforts are underway to apprehend others who remain absconding.
The investigation is ongoing.
