Police have arrested nine people and apprehended a juvenile in connection with an alleged conspiracy to kill a rival gang member in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, officials said on Wednesday.

According to Jamshedpur City Superintendent of Police Lalit Meena, the investigation was launched after police received information that Md Khurshid, a known criminal and alleged drug peddler, was planning an attack on a rival with the help of his associates.

Acting on the information, a police team conducted a raid at a location under a railway bridge near Garib Nawaz Colony. Five people, including Khurshid, were arrested during the operation. Police also recovered a country-made pistol, a magazine and four live cartridges from the spot.

The investigation was subsequently expanded based on information obtained during the interrogation of the arrested suspects. Police teams then conducted another operation at Idgah Maidan under the Jugsalai police station area, where five more people were apprehended, the officer said.

During questioning, Khurshid allegedly disclosed the reasons behind his planned attack on Md Nizam, a former associate. Police said the dispute was reportedly linked to money that Nizam allegedly owed Khurshid in connection with the procurement of brown sugar.

Investigators also found a personal angle to the alleged rivalry. According to the police, Khurshid was resentful because Nizam had married a woman who had previously been in a relationship with him. The alleged threats made by Nizam against Khurshid further intensified the dispute, police said.

The arrests and recovery of the firearm and ammunition have provided investigators with crucial leads as they continue to probe the alleged murder plot. Police are now examining the role of each accused and the circumstances surrounding the planned attack.
