NIA conducts major raids in Poonch linked to 2024 terror conspiracy

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday conducted extensive raids at multiple locations in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district as part of its ongoing investigation into a terror conspiracy and terror funding case, officials said.

The searches focused primarily in the Mohalla Khorinar and Hari‑Surankote areas of the border district, where teams executed coordinated operations at several premises allegedly connected to individuals under investigation for providing logistical support, financial assistance and other forms of help to terrorist networks.

Officials said Thursday’s operations stem from a case linked to the recovery of arms and ammunition in 2024 , including a pistol and two grenades seized from two individuals in the district. The probe, which began after the 2024 recoveries, has broadened to examine alleged financial support channels and overground facilitation that aid militant activities in the region.

In April 2025, the NIA had already filed a chargesheet in a special court naming Abdul Aziz and Munawar Hussain as the principal accused in the terror conspiracy, along with their Pakistani handler, Nazir Hussain . The charges include conspiracy to procure and supply weapons and to support terrorist infrastructure across borders.

Sources familiar with the investigation said that the raids were also aimed at tracking financial networks and support systems alleged to have funded terrorist activities and facilitated movement of arms in border districts. According to official sources, the searches targeted residential premises of individuals suspected of providing monetary and material support to proscribed groups operating in Jammu and Kashmir.

Security forces and intelligence agencies have maintained heightened vigilance in the region amid ongoing counter‑terror operations. Separate agencies, including the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and central forces, have carried out multiple coordinated actions in recent months to dismantle terror support structures, including arrests of suspects and recovery of weapons in adjacent districts.
