NIA Chargesheets Shehzad Bhatti, Seven Others in Ambala Police Station IED Blast Case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday filed a chargesheet against eight accused , including Pakistan-based gangster-turned-terrorist Shehzad Bhatti , in connection with the January 17, 2026, IED car bomb blast at the Baldev Nagar police station in Ambala, Haryana.

The chargesheet was submitted before the Special NIA Court in Panchkula against Bhatti and seven Indian nationals Karamjit Singh alias Tony, Akash, Soureb alias Sobi alias Sourab, Raman Kumar, Satyam, Sukhdev Singh alias Sukha, and Amarjeet Singh alias Ambi .

According to the NIA, Bhatti masterminded the conspiracy to target the police station with the aim of spreading terror by attacking law enforcement establishments . The agency alleged that the Pakistan-based handler had established operational modules in India and tasked local operatives with arranging logistics, procuring explosive materials, and executing the attack.

The investigation identified Akash as Bhatti's principal India-based operative , responsible for coordinating with the other accused during the planning and execution of the conspiracy.

The NIA said the Baldev Nagar police station was selected after reconnaissance of multiple potential targets . Investigators alleged that some of the accused parked a car loaded with gas cylinders and explosive substances inside the police station premises and videographed the scene to publicise the attack.

The agency further claimed that Bhatti recruited and radicalised the accused through social media platforms and encrypted communication channels. Digital, electronic, documentary, and forensic evidence gathered during the probe allegedly establishes that the accused remained in constant contact with the handler throughout the planning and execution of the attack.

The NIA said its continuing investigation has uncovered an extensive network involving recruitment, financing, operational coordination, procurement of explosives, and execution of the terrorist act, all allegedly carried out under Bhatti's direction. The investigation into the case remains ongoing.
