NIA Arrests Key Accused In West Bengal Bomb Blast Case
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday arrested a prime accused in last month’s bomb explosion in West Bengal that left one person dead and three others seriously injured .
The accused, identified as Ahidul Islam Molla , a resident of Bijoyganj Bazar in South 24 Parganas district , was taken into custody following a detailed examination of his alleged role , the agency said in an official statement.
The explosion occurred at Dakshin Bamunia village , where improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were reportedly being assembled. According to investigators, the blast was accidental and took place during the preparation of bombs as part of a larger conspiracy . One of the individuals involved was killed in the explosion, while three others sustained critical injuries .
The NIA said its probe has revealed that Molla was a co-conspirator , playing an active role in both the fabrication of explosives and attempts to destroy evidence after the blast. His arrest is expected to provide crucial leads in uncovering the wider network behind the illegal activity.
The case was initially investigated by the West Bengal Police , which had earlier arrested another accused. Given the seriousness of the incident and suspected links to organised criminal activity , the probe was later handed over to the NIA.
Officials said further investigation is underway to identify other individuals involved and determine the motive behind the conspiracy.
