Next Commonwealth Youth Games set to start on October 29 next year

The eighth edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games is set to bring together the next generation of global sporting talent, with Malta and Gozo confirmed as hosts from October 29 to November 4, 2027 .

The event will begin with an Opening Ceremony on October 29 , followed by six days of intense competition, running from October 30 to November 4. Organisers are preparing for a vibrant showcase of youth sport, with around 1,200 athletes aged between 14 and 18 expected to participate, representing 74 Commonwealth nations and territories .

The 2027 Games will feature a diverse programme of eight sports , including swimming and para swimming, athletics and para athletics, netball, sailing, squash, triathlon, water polo, and weightlifting. Notably, sailing and water polo will make their debut, adding fresh energy to the competition.

A key highlight of the upcoming edition is its expanded para sport programme , which is set to be the largest in the event’s history. This builds on the momentum from the previous edition in Commonwealth Youth Games 2023, where para athletics was introduced, marking a significant step towards inclusivity in youth sport.

Speaking about the preparations, Katie Sadleir said the Games promise an “electrifying and competitive atmosphere” , with world-class facilities designed to provide young athletes a transformative experience .

Competitions will be held across multiple venues, including the Cottonera Indoor Pool, Tal-Qroqq National Pool, Marsa Athletics Stadium, Marsa Sports Centre, Mellieha Bay, Gozo Indoor Sports Pavilion, and Marsalforn Bay , showcasing both the sporting infrastructure and scenic beauty of the host region.

With a strong focus on youth development, inclusivity, and global sporting spirit , Malta 2027 is shaping up to be a landmark edition, one that could help nurture and inspire the stars of tomorrow on an international stage.
