India and the United Kingdom have formalised a landmark strategic partnership to jointly drive digital connectivity and technological innovation, announcing a joint investment of £24 million, equivalent to around ₹282 crore, over the next four years. The agreement, signed during the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, is aimed at deepening collaboration in telecommunications, artificial intelligence, and secure digital networks, marking a new phase in the technological relationship between the two nations.

The pact was signed by Catherine Page, Deputy Director for Technology, Spectrum and Strategy at the United Kingdom’s Department of Science, Innovation and Technology, and Parag Agrawal, Deputy Director General at India’s Department of Telecommunications. Both governments have agreed to establish the India-UK Connectivity and Innovation Centre (CIC), which will serve as a collaborative platform linking researchers, industry experts, academic institutions, and policymakers from both countries.

The newly formed centre will act as a living bridge between India and the UK, aimed at addressing emerging challenges in the digital ecosystem and accelerating innovation in key technology domains. According to Catherine Page, the partnership reflects a shared ambition to create real-world impact by connecting innovators, researchers, and telecom businesses from both countries. She highlighted that the initiative aligns with IMC 2025’s theme, “Innovate to Transform,” and demonstrates the intent of both nations to channel innovation into inclusive, scalable solutions.

Parag Agrawal said that the India-UK Connectivity and Innovation Centre will focus on the advancement of telecommunications, cybersecurity, non-telecom digital technologies, and the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in communication networks. The centre will also promote collaborative research and development, joint testbeds, and standardisation efforts to strengthen both countries’ participation in the global telecom ecosystem. He noted that India’s digital transformation journey has been remarkable in scale and inclusiveness, and the partnership will build on that foundation to address both immediate and long-term connectivity challenges.

The creation of the India-UK Connectivity and Innovation Centre follows years of dialogue between the two countries in the area of technology and innovation.
