New Films, No Sequels? Prabhas’ Two Biggest Franchises Face Another Long Wait
Prabhas continues to remain one of the busiest stars in Indian cinema, with several ambitious projects in his pipeline. However, while the actor is moving ahead with new films, two of his most anticipated sequels, ‘ Kalki 2 ’ and ‘ Salaar 2 ’, are progressing slowly, leaving fans waiting for updates.
The biggest example is ‘ Kalki 2898 AD ’, which released in 2024 and emerged as a major box-office success. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the science-fiction epic featured Prabhas alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Deepika Padukone. Its ambitious storyline and ending raised expectations for the next instalment.
The wait for ‘Kalki 2’ continues, although production has moved forward. The makers have reportedly cancelled two Mumbai shooting schedules, while a fresh schedule featuring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Sai Pallavi is expected to begin in mid-November. The film is targeting completion of its principal photography by March 2027.
The situation is more uncertain for ‘Salaar 2’. The first instalment, released in December 2023, built considerable anticipation for its continuation. However, filming is yet to begin, with director Prashanth Neel reportedly planning to start work in June 2027 after completing his commitments on Jr NTR’s film.
Meanwhile, Prabhas has other projects keeping him occupied, including ‘ Fauzi ’, directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, and ‘ Spirit ’, helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga.
For fans, the concern is not a shortage of Prabhas films but the uncertainty surrounding two highly anticipated franchises. While the actor’s career continues to move forward, audiences are still waiting to see when these blockbuster stories will return to the big screen.
