New Delhi to Stage Asian Shooting Championship with LA 2028 Quotas
India has been awarded the hosting rights for the Asian Shooting Championship (Rifle and Pistol) 2027 , a major continental event that will serve as an Olympic qualifying competition for the 2028 Los Angeles Games , the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) confirmed on Tuesday.
The championship will offer eight Olympic quota places for LA 2028 and will be held at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi . The event is scheduled to take place from December 1 to 10, 2027 , with final confirmations to follow in due course.
The decision was formally communicated by the Asian Shooting Confederation (ASC) in a letter addressed to NRAI president Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo . The letter, issued by ASC Secretary General Duaij AlOtaibi, congratulated the Indian federation for successfully securing the hosting rights.
“We congratulate the National Rifle Association of India for winning the hosting rights of the Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship 2027 , where eight quota places will be distributed for the LA 2028 Olympics ,” the letter stated, adding that the ASC was confident the event would be organised to the highest international standards.
The 2027 Asian Championship will be part of a significant year for Indian shooting, as New Delhi is also scheduled to host the ISSF World Cup (Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun) in April 2027, which will offer an additional 12 Olympic quota places. Hosting both events will provide Indian shooters with a major home advantage in their qualification campaign for the Los Angeles Games.
The announcement comes at a time when India is already hosting the 2026 Asian Shooting Championship (Rifle/Pistol) in New Delhi, which began on February 4, 2026 , and has attracted over 300 shooters from around 20 Asian countries . The ongoing competition has further reinforced India’s reputation as a reliable host for elite international shooting events.
Officials said the back-to-back hosting of major continental and global competitions reflects the confidence of international shooting bodies in India’s infrastructure, organisational capability, and administrative efficiency. The Asian Shooting Championship is regarded as one of the most prestigious events on the continental calendar and plays a crucial role in Olympic qualification , making the 2027 edition particularly significant for shooters across Asia.
