New Chapter in AP’s Industrial History: CM to Lay Foundation for ArcelorMittal Steel Plant Today

In a major step set to transform the industrial landscape of Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will today lay the foundation stone for a prestigious greenfield integrated steel plant by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) at Rajayyapeta in Nakkapalli mandal of Anakapalli district.

The project, with a massive investment of ₹1,35,964 crore , is expected to usher in a new phase of industrial growth in the state.

Two-phase development with large production capacity

The plant will be developed over 5,465 acres in two phases. The first phase will have a production capacity of 7.3 million metric tonnes , while the second phase will add another 10.5 million metric tonnes , taking the total annual capacity to 17.8 million metric tonnes . The facility is expected to play a key role in meeting domestic steel demand.

The project is also set to generate employment for over one lakh people , both directly and indirectly.

Captive port with ₹11,198 crore investment

A captive port has also been approved as part of the project, to be developed over 316 acres with an additional investment of ₹11,198 crore . The port, with a capacity of 50 million metric tonnes , is expected to create employment for another 6,000 people .

To improve connectivity, the government has already taken up construction of a four-lane road linking the plant to National Highway-16 on a war footing. With this project, the Visakhapatnam region is poised to emerge as a major industrial hub in the country.

Dignitaries to attend

The event will be attended by Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy , Union Minister of State Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma , Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan , and IT Minister Nara Lokesh , among others.

A key highlight will be the presence of Lakshmi Nivas Mittal , Executive Chairman of ArcelorMittal, and Aditya Mittal , Chairman of AM/NS India, who will participate in the signing of industrial agreements.

Event schedule

As per the schedule, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will travel by helicopter from Amaravati and reach Rajayyapeta in the afternoon. At 3:40 PM , he will visit the ‘Anubhava Kendra’ to review the steel plant model, followed by the unveiling of the foundation plaque and participation in agreement exchange with the global steel company.
