Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed series has started filming, and its cast is stacked

One of gaming's most iconic franchises is finally getting the screen treatment it deserves. Netflix's live-action Assassin's Creed series entered production on March 9, 2026, with filming underway at Rome's historic Cinecittà Studios and on location across Lazio and Tuscany. The shoot is scheduled to wrap in mid-October, pointing to a probable 2027 debut on the platform.

The show unfolds in 64 A.D., against the backdrop of the Great Fire of Rome under Emperor Nero, an era untouched by the games, giving the creative team real room to breathe. True to franchise DNA, the central conflict pits the Assassin Brotherhood against the Templars in a battle over the very fate of human free will.

At the helm is Emmy-winning director Johan Renck , whose work on Chernobyl made him a natural choice for this kind of tense, large-scale historical drama. Showrunners Roberto Patino (Westworld) and David Wiener (Homecoming) co-created the series and serve as executive producers, promising a story as philosophically rich as it is action-packed.

The ensemble cast keeps growing. Series leads Toby Wallace and Lola Petticrew are joined by Noomi Rapace , Sean Harris , and announced just days ago Industry star Nabhaan Rizwan and The Northman's Claes Bang .

This marks Netflix's first foray into the Assassin's Creed universe, nearly five years after inking its deal with Ubisoft. With the franchise having moved over 230 million copies worldwide , expectations are sky-high and hopes are firmly pinned on surpassing the disappointing 2016 film.
